Not an expert
There are so many experts these days. Especially in marketing.
Experts go by many names, from specialist to wizard. Yes, "content marketing wizard" is a thing...
But calling yourself an expert is problematic for two reasons:
you feel the need to justify the title:(you're likely to tie your personal identity to your job title)
you're less likely to learn from others: especially those who don't call themselves experts
Regarding the first point, I'd like to focus on doing my job. Not defending it. Also, I'd like to detach my personal identity from constructs like a job title. It's meant to describe a job - not define my worth as a person.
Second, I'm a firm believer that we can glean valuable lessons from anyone, regardless of their title, social status, wealth, etc. Calling myself an expert would predispose me to elevate myself above learning from others who I consider "beneath me."
Look, I'm just learning and trying to figure everything out.
So, I'm not an expert. And I never plan to call myself one.
I'd like to be smarter than that.
